Spring Cleaning for Health and Wellness

Spring is a season for fresh starts, new beginnings, growth and transformations. And it’s also for spring cleaning. We open up the windows. Deep-clean the closets. Declutter the drawers. Shift that vacuum into overdrive. There is always a strong sense of satisfaction after a nice cleaning and decluttering of your house. But why? Research has shown that living in a clean and organized environment can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and improve overall well-being. So let’s take a look at the mental and physical benefits of spring cleaning.

It Lightens Your Mood

Did you know that cleaning helps to eliminate stress? Clutter overwhelms your senses and weighs you down. On the contrary, when you are surrounded by a clean and tidy environment, it can boost self-esteem and lead to increased feelings of happiness and contentment. Furthermore, a clean home creates a welcoming and inviting space for family and friends, which can further contribute to positive emotions.

It Increases Productivity

When your surroundings are clean and organized, you are better able to focus on the task at hand. This can lead to increased productivity, as you are less likely to be distracted by clutter and mess. Furthermore, cleaning and decluttering saves you time when looking for misplaced items. Knowing exactly what you have and understanding that there is a place for everything gives you peace of mind.

It Improves Your Health

Imagine all the dust and particles that collect on so many items lying around. A spring cleaning can help you breathe better, literally and metaphorically! Powerful asthma triggers, such as dust and pet dander, float around in the air and settle on every surface in your home. A thorough cleaning will help eliminate allergens and keep new ones from coming in. And when you feel better physically, it's easier to relax–oh, and sleep better, too!

It Makes You Feel Good about Yourself

After you declutter, you can just say “Ahhhhh” and take a big breath! Think about all of that stuff that took up so much of your physical space? And let’s be honest, you probably forgot you had many of those items. Remember that spring cleaning also means cleaning out the emotional closets we have accumulated over the years. So cleaning out everything is very liberating and refreshing.

Spring is all about new beginnings. So take it upon yourself to use the changing of seasons to create change in yourself. You'll feel like a big weight has been lifted.
